Modern Desert Spec. places its public program along a single shaded outdoor room that runs the length of the site. The roof plane is held low and deep so that the interior stays cool through the afternoon, and the outdoor room becomes the building’s primary social space.
The pool sits flush with the surrounding stone, with dark plaster that lets the water read more as reflection than as recreation. Warm stone, dark metal, and vertical timber are chosen to weather rather than to date, in the spirit of the Native Modern approach.
